This is the story of Koka, a 28 years old low caste man with high aspiring dreams for a brighter tomorrow. Koka is a B.M.C employee and works as a garbage collector and a gutter cleaner. Having worked in B.M.C for the past 10 years has made Koka evolve not only as a responsible citizen of the city but has also made him take up the cleanliness Drive of the city at more serious levels. 'MUMBAI CHAKA CHAK' his dream project aims and expresses his concern for a cleaner and greener Mumbai. His helplessness and frustration to maintain the city leads to a solution in which he retaliates and punishes those who litter by hitting them with eggs and tomatoes. He justifies his act by expressing that the public of Mumbai city are too impervious, indifferent and irresponsible towards the maintenance and cleanliness of the city. So, the only way out to mend their ways is by making them taste a dose of their own medicine. His drive is accepted and carried out by his group of friends as they believe in Koka's vision and also for the element of fun involved in the implementation of the drive.
Koka's best friend is Ok. Ok is a fun filled man and has a carefree attitude towards life. Ok lives with Koka in a slum in Dharavi. They are very close to each other and bank on each other for emotional, personal and all kinds of support. But their views differ. Though, Ok defies his dream project 'Mumbai Chaka Chak', he does support his dream by participating in mission 'Mumbai Chaka Chak'.
Koka receives a lot of support and drive in his dream from Anarkali, a bold and broad minded girl with a confident bearing, an active figure in social and cultural events. Apart from being very ambitious, she is also a go getter. She is a social worker and has ambitious aims and objectives in life. Deeply influenced by the modern culture, she is also a very diplomatic person. She identifies Koka's vision and simply supports him in his good work. However, when a situation arises in Koka's life and he expects Anarkali to support his decision, she flatly backs out.
Life moves on.
The most painful villain in Koka's life is Gangajal, the plastic merchant in his locality. Koka's attempts to eradicate plastic are made futile by Gangajal who is financially and politically stronger than Koka. Gangajal's selfish and irresponsible attitude as a citizen is deeply detestable. Their enmity waves at various levels while each trying to destroy the others business.
Koka meets Basmati hanging on top of a gutter. He falls in love with her at the first sight. A new love story begins. Born and brought up by her grandmother in Jhumri Tallaiya, Jharkhand, Basmati has joined her brother in Mumbai after the death of her grandmother a year back. They live in a chawl in Dadar. Basmati is a strong girl with a strong will and bears a record of being a topper in school and college. Her attitude and look is one that keeps people away from her. She has a mediocre, simple and underdone personality and her most repulsive trait for the city of Mumbai is her strong Bihari accent. After pursuing her M.A in sociology, Basmati is looks for an appropriate job in a multi-national company. But her accent fails her in the pursuit. She accepts her failure as a challenge and decides to prove her capability to the world by joining one of the most glamorous industries and becoming an air-hostess.
Koka and Basmati realize that they are made for each other. Their approach, concern and their dreams unite and they become one. But, Koka's world comes crashing down when he learns that Basmati is Gangajal's sister. Basmati loves her brother dearly but their views and choices differ. She fights against her brother for the injustice he has caused and also for her love.
